Dr. Ramon Parés Farràs (1927)
Graduate of Science, 1951. Doctorhip with honours at the University of Barcelona, 1956. Scientific collaborator to the Superior Council for Scientific Research (CSIC, 1962). Professorship of Microbiology by opposition from the Faculty of Science at the University of Barcelona, 1964. Professor of History of Science at the Faculty of Science. Academician of the Royal Academy of Pharmacy of Barcelona. Academician of the Royal Academy of Science and Arts of Barcelona. Academician of Catalan Studies Institute (IEC). President of the Royal Academy of Science and Arts of Barcelona. Doctor Honoris Causa by University of Nancy (França). Narcis Monturiol Medal for scientific and technological merit. Barcelona city's Gold Medal to scientific merit. Nancy city's Gold Medal to scientific merit. He has leaded more than fifty doctoral thesis.
He has published fourteen books and a great number of conferences and also around two hundred research articles in several languages. Co-director with Dr. Vernet about the monumental work La Ciència en la Història dels Països Catalans (Catalan Studies Institute and University of Valencia, 2007). Among the most recent works about Science History are included Cartas a Nuria. Una historia de la ciencia (Almuzara, 2004), Experimentació i coneixement (University of Barcelona, 2007) and Pascalianas. Los tres niveles del pensamiento (Herder, 2009). Dr. Ramon Parés has held several academic management dispositions as dean, as Department leader, as member of the Academic Council at the University of Barcelona and as director of the University from the Generalitat of Catalonia Counselling.
